Michigan got good news this week when Shea Patterson was ruled eligible this season. Nebraska football should be getting its good news shortly.

Ole Miss transfer Shea Patterson received news that he would indeed be able to play for Michigan on Friday. With the announcement, it appears the Cornhuskers should be able to get similar news very soon about linebacker Breon Dixon.

I say should because nothing is a given when you’re talking about the NCAA. What is for sure is that Patterson getting his waiver approved has set a precedent.

Dixon knew what he needed back when he decided to transfer to Nebraska. As the Omaha World-Herald reports, he knew what he needed to happen in order to play for the Cornhuskers this season.

More from Nebraska Football

“Jim Harbaugh’s going to fight hard for Shea to be eligible, and I figure once he gets it, the rest of us will,” Dixon said. The plan was to, “let Michigan and Patterson pave the way, and for other transfers to become eligible in the wake of it.”

The first domino has now officially fallen. That domino has fallen despite the fact that Ole Miss put up a bit of a fight.

The SEC school said it couldn’t just allow for its players to walk. It seems that since that fight has now ended in their defeat, whatever claims they made against Patterson being able to transfer and play immediately are equally invalid when it comes to Dixon.

Breon Dixon the impact player

Dixon showed what he’s capable of in the spring game. While he’s small and considered more of a swing player, he’s got speed and is a solid tackler.

Size doesn’t mean everything when talking about being a good defender. Fans who watched Lavonte David can attest to that.

There’s no guarantee that Breon Dixon would be a starter for the Nebraska football team should he get immediate eligibility. What seems like a no-brainer is that he will be a contributor this season and beyond.
