Nebraska football: Jalen Hurts could be top transfer target for Huskers
With Alabama’s spring practice winding down, the question of who is the starting quarterback might be answered soon. Could Nebraska football benefit by getting Jalen Hurts?
Jalen Hurts might be a massive free agent target for Nebraska football team and the rest of the NCAA. So says the Alabama quarterback’s father.
Averion Hurts, Jalen’s father recently sat down with Bleacher Report and talked about the possibility of the quarterback finding a new home. In that interview, Averion made it clear that he’s laying the situation clearly at the feet of his son.
“I told Jalen, you f–ked up, you opened the door and put yourself in this situation, now it’s up to you to dig yourself out.” He also made it clear that “digging yourself out” does not include changing positions or sitting on the sidelines this season.
It appears what most people expected to happen is happening. The family is making it clear that if Jalen Hurts doesn’t start for Alabama in 2018, he’s not going to be at Alabama.

That opens the door for a Cornhuskers program that has lost a little depth at quarterback lately. While the team would prefer a grad transfer like Joe Burrow, there’s still no guarantee he’ll actually transfer.
Even if he did transfer, there would be no guarantee he would come to Lincoln. So what about Hurts?
There is an argument to be made that a player who transfers because he’s not starting isn’t the kind of player that the Huskers would want anyway. There is also the argument that the Cornhuskers would have to wait a while in order to see him play for them.
Those are both good arguments. My response is that the Nebraska football team should be looking to stockpile as much talent as possible. Once Jalen Hurts transfers, that’s pretty much it. If he comes to the Cornhuskers it appears that will be his landing spot and that means less headaches moving forward.
