Never let it be said the Nebraska football coaches are the only ones recruiting the next generation.

CJ Smith got in on the recruiting act earlier this week. When he saw Florida quarterback had decided to announce he was transferring, the Nebraska football defensive back sent out a tweet telling him how much Allen might like it here.

“Come on jake the snake you know it’s all love up here.” Smith tweeted out.

Allen, who has decided to leave the Gators after his freshman year, cited the fact that he doesn’t feel like he’s a fit for Dan Mullen’s offense. The question then has to be, would Allen really be a fit in Scott Frost’s offense?

It turns out Allen would likely have been a better fit for Mike Riley and the old coaching staff’s offense. Listed as a three-star pro-style quarterback out of high school, it doesn’t appear Allen has a great deal of mobility.

In high school, he was certainly a top of the line passer. In his senior year, he threw for 2,300 and 27 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.

It doesn’t appear he was a statue in the pocket, though he wasn’t called on to run much. Through 14 games in his final season in high school, he had just 11 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown.

You can’t fault CJ Smith for wanting to get as much talent as he possibly can to Lincoln. He did just watch one of his teammates decided they weren’t a fit for Frost’s offense.

There is also now a bit of a shortage at quarterback for the Cornhuskers. That’s why there has been so much talk about someone like Joe Burrow or even Jalen Hurts as a potential target for Lincoln.

Nothing wrong with Smith recruiting for Nebraska football, but Jake Allen probably isn’t the type of player that’s going to want to play in the Huskers’ version of the Spread.
