It’s a brave new world for Nebraska football and in-state targets.

You can hardly blame Nebraska football fans for getting nervous about the state’s best players. Chris Hickman is one of those players that is garnering a ton of attention on a national scale.

On Monday morning, the Omaha Burke tight end announced he had received an offer from the Missouri Tigers. That offer gives him an even dozen. Of those 12, all but one are from Power 5 conference teams.

It makes sense. Hickman isn’t just 247Sports top player in the state of Nebraska.

Hickman is also the 10th best tight end in the entire class according to that website. Rivals aren’t quite as high on the Burke product but it’s not far off.

According to that recruiting site, he’s the second-best player in the state and the 22nd best tight end in the 2019 recruiting class.

For whatever reason, he’s dropped a bit in their rankings. Perhaps it’s the fact that Hickman is considered a pretty good Cornhusker lean despite the other 11 teams that are hot and heavy after him.

Despite all evidence being, he’ll land in Lincoln on signing day, Husker fans are a bit uneasy with the number of teams from out of state going hard after him.

When you factor in Nick Henrich and the massive amount of recruiting attention that Omaha Burke player is getting it makes sense that people are nervous. The Huskers generally have a couple in-state kids a year that are highly touted, but it’s been a little while since two players from the same high school have been this highly recruited by Power 5 schools.

The Cornhuskers latest loss in the in-state battle for Bryson Williams to Wisconsin is also salt in an open wound. When Scott Frost arrived, he made it clear he wanted to basically close the borders and keep all the talent right here in the heartland.

The Omaha Burke stars are going to make Frost’s goal more difficult to attain than people probably thought. Still, it seems likely Mizzou’s offer to Chris Hickman won’t budge the needle when it comes to whether or not he comes to play Nebraska football.
