Nebraska suffered a bit of a recruiting blow when it lost the sweepstakes for one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2019 class.
While Nebraska looks for more quarterbacks to fit its system, the Cornhuskers found out on Sunday night they lost the battle for one of the best. Max Duggan has officially announced his school and the Council Bluffs, Iowa star has picked the TCU Horned Frogs.
While Duggan has been a lean to the Big 12 team for a while now, he at least had the Huskers in the picture. It’s not clear whether his decision to head down south makes it more or less painful that NU was likely in second place in his sweepstakes.
According to 247Sports, Duggan is the seventh best dual-threat quarterback in the country. He’s also the third best player in the entire state of Iowa.

Losing out to the Council Bluffs prospect means this is one of those rare 500-mile radius recruiting losses. When Scott Frost arrived in Lincoln, he made it clear that is exactly the kind of recruiting battle he wants and needs to win in order to be successful here.

Duggan was carrying 24 offers when he finally decided to pull the trigger. The good news, is it’s possible the commitment to TCU is more of a desire to slow the process down a bit at this point in the cycle.
It’s certainly early enough in 2018 that the quarterback could change his mind. With him being just next door to the Husker coaching staff, it doesn’t seem as though they are going to be completely backing off anytime soon.
For now though, it is indeed back to the drawing board for Nebraska and its football coaches. The door is hardly closed on getting a very good dual-threat quarterback, but there are already two big targets that are off the board for now.
