The Nebraska football team has missed the cut for one of its top offensive line targets. John Olmstead announced his top five and NU wasn’t on it.
While the Nebraska football team gets ready for its Spring Game next weekend, the Huskers got a bit of bad news this weekend. Offensive line target John Olmstead announced his final Top Five and the Cornhuskers weren’t on it.
In the same time that he announced the final schools he’s looking at, Olmstead said he is planning on committing on April 20. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the New Jersey offensive lineman has quite a few Big Ten teams on his list.
On those top five, Olmstead has said he’s still looking at Minnesota, Rutgers, Michigan, Ole Miss and Notre Dame. While the Fighting Irish have long been the favorite team to land the lineman according to 247Sports, the Huskers can’t be happy about the possibility of losing him to a couple of B1G rivals.
Olmstead is considered one of the best linemen in the entire 2019 class and the fourth best player in the state of New Jersey. He also marked a new attempt by Scott Frost and company to make some inroads in a state that has quite a bit of talent.

The Cornhuskers have never been particularly good at mining the Garden State. A recruit every now and then has come to Lincoln from New Jersey but Olmstead would have been the best get in quite some time.
The announcement is also a bit of a blow considering that the Cornhuskers did manage to make the tackle’s Top 10. It wasn’t that long ago that John Olmstead visited the Nebraska football team.
Having said all that, it’s unfortunate that he’s not considering the school anymore. It’s onto Plan B for the Huskers now, though they will likely continue to pursue the lineman as the cycle continues.
