The Nebraska football team has been offering offensive linemen from all over the country. The latest target has made the Huskers his first Power 5 offer.

The Nebraska football team is looking low and high for offensive linemen from the 2019 class. While the Cornhuskers have been offering an awful lot of 4-star prospects lately, it appears they think Jayme Simmons is someone who fits the program.

According to 247Sports, Simmons is a 3-star offensive lineman who hasn’t garnered a ton of attention from the big boys. That’s despite the fact that the offensive lineman is a big boy himself.

Simmons stands 6-5 and weighs in at 255. It’s possible that weight is why all of the offers for the tackle so far have come from smaller schools.

So far the Alabama tackle has 10 offers but they are all from Conference USA or Sun Belt teams (as well as n FCS squad.) In his official announcement of the offer, Simmons pointed out the Huskers were the first Big Ten school to offer.

In actuality, the Cornhuskers are the first Power 5 school to give him an official offer. It’s possible the lack of attention from the top schools in the country could be changing soon.

Simmons recently took an unofficial visit to Auburn and he’s gotten quite a few offers in the last few weeks. It’s a safe bet that Nebraska’s offer is going to get some attention from some of the other B1G schools as well.

Hailing from Alabama should help the offensive tackle garner attention from SEC schools sooner or later. It’s likely a good thing that the Huskers have gotten their foot in the door now.

Scott Frost and his coaching staff have long talked about fit being a big factor for them. While they are clearly going after vaunted prospects, the Nebraska football team isn’t above offering a diamond in the rough if they think he can slide into their system with ease.
