The Nebraska football team would very much like to get Marquez Beason into Lincoln. The only problem is he’s announced he’s not taking any more visits.

One of the biggest surprises so far this spring in the 2019 recruiting class is the commitment of Marquez Beason to the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Nebraska football team had been hoping to get the player into Lincoln. At the moment, Beason has said he doesn’t plan to take any more visits.

Scott Frost and company haven’t had many losses when it comes to recruiting. Beason might be the biggest since they came to Lincoln.

The magnitude of that loss is magnified because it was to Illinois. Since he announced his commitment, Cornhusker fans and coaches alike have been hoping that they could end up stealing him away from the Illini.

The job of grabbing such a talented player got a bit harder on Wednesday afternoon. Beason announced no his official Twitter account that he was not going to be taking visits outside of the one he has scheduled to Illinois.

Beason has not actually seen his new home yet. According to 247Sports he’s slated to pay a visit there on April 6. It’s not entirely unusual for a player to commit before he sees a school. The Huskers have been beneficiaries of that as well.

It’s a little unusual that a player who has more than 40 offers would commit to a program that has only been struggling over the last decade, sight unseen. The fact that he’s willing to do that, despite the fact that he currently hails from Texas is even more surprising.

While the announcement that he won’t be taking other visits is a positive for those who love players who say they are committed, its a bad one for all the schools that were hoping to convince him that Illinois wasn’t the place to be.

The announcement likely won’t stop the Nebraska football program, and other teams around the country back off all that much.
