Nebraska football quarterback Patrick O’Brien isn’t letting Spring Break get in the way of his training and goals of being the Huskers’ QB1.

The Nebraska football team started Spring Practice last week. This week they are on Spring Break.

Despite it being called a break, it appears there are more than a few Huskers that are taking the time to make sure they’re getting some work in. One of those Cornhusker players is vying for the starting quarterback job.

Patrick O’Brien is back home, but he’s not lying by the water soaking in the rays. O’Brien is working with the “Armed & Dangerous” quarterback coach over the break.

Not only does that allow him to keep plenty sharp while he’s not working with the Husker coaches, but as one tweet points out, it means he gets to work with guys who know what it’s like to succeed in the NFL.

O’Brien spent at least part of Monday afternoon working with San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen. O’Brien was shown doing passing drills with Allen, where he had to throw over a screen that was simulating working against an outside linebacker and a safety high alignment.

During that drill, the Husker quarterback showed that if he doesn’t win the starting job, it won’t be because of a lack of an arm. The video shows O’Brien hitting Allen, who is standing stock still, right in the hands.

Yes, the argument could be made that Tanner Lee had the same kind of arm. When he was under pressure there was a rather obvious problem hitting the other team in the hands.

Still, it’s nice to see a Nebraska football player taking his “job” so seriously that he’s working with coaches when other kids are out partying. It’s also nice to see that the Huskers have a quarterback with a bonafide arm, even if he has some growing to do.
