Nick Gates might be able to do Nebraska football proud.

Nick Gates suprised quite a few Nebraska football fans when he announced he was going pro a year early. There were also some Cornhusker fans that weren’t really all that shocked.

Gates has been a bit frustrating in Lincoln because he has the strength and ability to be a dominant offensive lineman. There’s always been something missing when it comes to putting it all together.

It appears the former Husker is a bit of an enigma when it comes to NFL scouts as well, grading out at 5.00. That means that he will likely make an NFL camp, but he’s a bit of a longshot beyond that.

While he looks taller than he actually is, he’s been having some problems in the pass protection department. That should surprise nobody who watched a leaky line, led by Gates allow the pass rusher to get to Tanner Lee far too often.

Footwork is apparently quite good for Gates, but that footwork doesn’t help him much when he is attempting to stop people from getting to their target. There hasn’t been a great deal of love when it comes to his performance at the NFL combine.

That seems to fit with what several Nebraska football fans were thinking about him. There is a feeling he’s leaving Lincoln because he doesn’t like what the new staff is asking of him.
