Joshua Kalu appears to be the best Nebraska football has offered this year.

While former Nebraska football corner back Chris Jones is going to be lucky to catch on in the NFL, it appears Joshua Kalu has a slightly easier path. At the NFL combine, Kalu has gotten the best grade of any Cornhusker in attendance.

Kalu has rated out at 5.21 which, according to the NFL means he might earn a backup spot, or could play on special teams. It also means that Kalu appears to be the guy who keep the streak of Husker players getting drafted going, at least a little bit.

It appears that Kalu moving from corner to safety is what might get him into the NFL. At the same time, it appears his ability to provide run support is a big drawback for him. Zierlein appears to beleive that his run ability is almost non-existent.

Kalu’s pursuit angles have also been called “inconsistent” at best. With that kind of a scouting report, it’s good that he’s not looking at cornerback anymore.

On the plus side, Kalu appears to have the body and toughness of a hard-hitting safety. One of the scouting reports says that he’s able to shed blocks and “tackle out of nowhere.”

Kalu has also not put together his NFL combine stats so, like Jones, there is a chance he could help his case quite a bit in the coming days. At the same time, much like Jones, it seems like his speed isn’t super impressive, as he ran just a 4.58 40 but he’s also not ploddingly slow.

There have been some NFL scouts who have liked what they have seen out of the former Nebraska football defensive back.
