Nebraska football dominates Big Ten West on National Signing Day
Not only was the Nebraska football team’s class the best in the division, it really wasn’t close.
By now, you’ve likely seen how well the Nebraska football team did on National Signing Day. While achieving a Top 25 ranking was a nice accomplishment, it was how the staff managed to do it in a short period of time that’s really impressive.
The ranking of the 2018 class is even more impressive when you take a look at what the rest of the Big Ten West managed to pull off. To say the day wasn’t a resounding success for the rest of the division is a bit of an understatement.
According to Rivals rankings, the Huskers had the third best class in the conference. You have to go down the list a bit before you’ll find another West team.

Iowa and Wisconsin tied for 7th, followed closely by Minnesota who had the 9th best class out of 14. Purdue finished 11th, Illinois was 12th and Northwestern fielded the worst class of the entire conference.
When looking at the rankings on 247 Sports, Nebraska finished fourth in the Big Ten. Minnesota was the closest West division team, with the 7th best class. In that list, Iowa and Wisconsin are 8th and 9th, Purdue is 11th, Illinois is 12th and yes, Northwestern is dead last again.
As dominant as the Huskers look when compared to other Big Ten West teams in the conference, it’s even more striking when comparing national ranks. Ranked 21st rationally, there’s a big drop between Nebraska and the next Big Ten West school.
On Rivals, Iowa and Wisconsin are 39th. On 247 Sports, the Cornhuskers are 22nd and Minnesota is the next closest at 36th. Iowa is 40th and Wisconsin is 44th nationally.
No, none of these numbers mean the Nebraska football team has already booked its flight to the site of the Big Ten Championship game. At the same time, it does underline the excitement that surrounds Scott Frost’s first recruiting class.
