Nebraska football: Scott Frost thinks transfers without restrictions is ‘terrible idea’
Count Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost as one of those totally against a “transfer without restrictions” rule change if it comes.
Head Nebraska football coach Scott Frost believes a rule change when it comes to transfers would be a “terrible idea” the way it has been laid out. Jay Bilas is the most recent advocate of a change that would allow for “transfers without restrictions” for college athletes.
Bilas has laid out his argument. The NCAA often claims that student-athletes are honestly just students who happen to be athletes.
Bilas continued that regular students are able to transfer from one school to another without any sort of penalty. It makes sense, though obviously there are some rather extreme differences.

Few universities are seeing tens of millions of dollars (or more) in revenue each year thanks to their architecture department. Even if a school goes out and recruits a promising young Bio Chem major, it likely won’t cripple the Science department.
As Frost recently told the Lincoln Journal Star, being able to transfer without penalty, for any reason, would change the makeup of college football in a big way.
"“Realistically, if South Dakota State has an All-American tight end, which they did, and after his sophomore year he’s tearing it up, why wouldn’t I try to get him to Nebraska? And if we have a starting left tackle, and we have somebody from Alabama on our campus trying to recruit him to play there the next year… It’s going to get ugly. It’s going to get dirty.”"
Frost said. The NCAA has said that they could put penalties in place for the kind of tampering the Huskers coach is talking about. The question there is whether or not they could really police it the way they need to.
If we’re being really honest, the answer to that question is “of course not.” It is a safe bet that Frost would agree there might need to be a change to the transfer rules.
Other suggestions have included the ability of players to transfer anywhere without sitting out if and only if, their head coach leaves. Even this would be met with resistance from the “you commit to the school, not the coach” crowd.
That crowd has a point as well. When players sign their letters of intent, they don’t sign a letter saying they agree to play for Scott Frost. They sign a letter saying they are going to be playing for the Nebraska football program.
