Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost recently talked about how not everyone is pulling in the same direction. That has to change.

Most people knew there were problems with the Nebraska football team before Scott Frost said it. Still, when the new head coach makes comments about how people aren’t all pulling in the same direction, it makes people take notice.

The fact that in Frost’s recent interview with the Omaha World-Herald, he makes sure to say that not everything is fixed should make people take notice as well. Specifically, the new Huskers head coach was asked what was different about his time in Nebraska when he was a player.

The former UCF head coach said that everybody in the building was pulling in the same direction. Everybody, when I was there loved Nebraska and did everything they could to try and make it as successful as possible.”

He added that’s not what he’s finding here now. Frost made it clear that having athletic director Bill Moos on board has helped things.

The fact that Frost isn’t willing to say everyone is indeed pulling in the same direction should make you wonder if he has someone specific in mind. There are still holdouts in the athletic department from well before Moos arrived.

There have also been plenty of whispers about people in the athletic department who were looking out for themselves more than the program. Are they still there?

Is more house cleaning coming? We’ve seen the last remnants of Mike Riley’s staff and associates leave the Huskers, but the “pulling in different directions” likely goes beyond him.

It should also be pointed out that the last time Scott Frost was here, he was a player. He likely wasn’t involved in the intricacies of how the entire department was operating.

It’s also easier to think the program is running that way when you’re winning three National Championships in four years. Even if someone is harboring some personal grudges or working against the collective in some little way, it can be hidden.

Scott Frost has also been coaching for longer than people realize. He’s seen good programs and bad. It’s a safe bet he knows exactly what he’s talking about when he says there were and are people in the Nebraska football program pulling in different directions. Here’s hoping he and Bill Moos really are righting the ship.
