Nebraska football climbing up the recruiting rankings quickly
Could the Nebraska football team finish in the Top 25 classes?
When Scott Frost and his staff took over the Nebraska football team, the 2018 recruiting class had bottomed out. When the shift from Mike Riley to Frost was officially over, the Huskers had eight commits and the class ranked somewhere in the 70’s.
After pulling in two commitments on Thursday night, it appears the Huskers could finish with a top 25 class in both Rivals and 247Sports rankings. That is quite the impressive turnaround for a staff that wasn’t hired until Mid-December.
To be fair, Mike Riley and company were building a solid foundation early in 2017. The problem was that as the team started to struggle, the coaching staff had problems getting and keeping their high-value targets.
Guys like Brendan Radley-Hiles (Bookie) and Mario Booker looked elsewhere. Perhaps the most interesting part is that they are still looking elsewhere.

Frost and the rest of the Husker staff have managed to climb up the rankings not by getting guys to recommit, but basically going back to the drawing board. This approach has also helped the new Cornhuskers’ staff to build a roster that is already being reshaped to match their offensive and defensive approach.

With the commitments of Miles Jones and Dominick Watt, Nebraska is absolutely sniffing the top 25 in team rankings. They jumped all the way up to 27th in 247Sports rankings.
The Huskers are currently the top team in the B1G West and mere percentage points behind Michigan State. This is being done with the second smallest class in the conference.
When you look at average on that site, Nebraska actually has the fourth best class in the Big 10, behind only Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State. Rivals currently has the Huskers ranked as the 29th best class nationally.
That site also now has them just behind Minnesota in terms of points, but the Golden Gophers have nine (9!) more commitments in their class. When taking a look at average per player, the Huskers are kicking butt and taking names, as they are behind only Ohio State and Penn State and are beating out Michigan.
The good news is that the Nebraska football team isn’t done yet. There are several big-time players set to visit between now and signing day.
The question now is how many does Scott Frost intend to take, and can the new staff hang onto everyone it’s hauled in so far.
