Former Nebraska football star Kenny Bell has signed with the Denver Broncos.

Kenny Bell has had a quiet career in the NFL since he left the Nebraska football team. Despite the lack of stats … of any kind, it’s hard to argue that he isn’t achieving something.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bell announced on Twitter he had signed with the Denver Broncos. The move means the wide receiver will join his third team in four years.

The move also means that Bell gets to go play professional football in his home state. There are all kinds of Huskers who would kill to be able to do that.

Bell was drafted in the 2015 NFL draft in the 5th round by the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. Before his pro career could even get started, he was injured in the preseason and spent his rookie year on the IR.

In September of 2016 he was cut by the Bucs and a month later he was signed by the Baltimore Ravens and placed on their practice squad. In January of 2017, the Ravens thought enough about the former Husker to a Futures contract.

As the 2017 preseason was about to kick off, the team decided to waive him. In October of 2017, after a few months as a free agent, Baltimore signed him once again and placed him on the practice squad.

That leads us up to today, when the Broncos signed him off that practice squad roster. Considering the offensive struggles of Denver, could 2018 be the year he finally makes an active roster as a receiver?

Over his short career, Kenny hasn’t logged a stat, though he has played a bit of special teams. Despite that, it’s always impressive when a player can get coaches’ eyes enough to continue adding him to the roster.

Now Kenny Bell will head towards OTAs and fall camp knowing he has a shot at making a roster. That’s all any former Nebraska football star could ask for.
