The Nebraska football team’s push to makeover their Blackshirt defense got another boost with the commitment of defensive end Casey Rogers.

The new Nebraska football staff clearly understands what it needs in order to make the Blackshirts the Blackshirts again. After several seasons where the Huskers defense got lit up more than it lit people up, the defense has been a focus in recruiting for Frost and company.

Nearly half of the current 16 commits are on the defensive side of the ball. That includes the newest commit, defensive end Casey Rogers.

Rogers is a big get who saw Lincoln just a few days ago. It appears as though he loved what he saw as he announced his commitment on Tuesday night.

Rogers talked to 247 Sports about his commitment, saying he thinks Scott Frost is going to be doing very big things. It’s clear the Cornhuskers are wanting to do big things on the defensive line in particular.

Rogers is the fourth d-line commit in the 2018 class. That’s absolutely a good thing, considering how much of a non-factor that unit has been the last few years.

In 2018, the line was supposed to be a group that largely just held up the opposing o-line and allowed the linebackers to get through. Under new defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, it appears they’ll be a bit more aggressive again.

In winning Rogers, the Huskers beat out quite a few Power 5 conference teams. That includes Indiana and Rutgers in the Big 10.

While we Rogers’ is going to help the Blackshirts become the Blackshirts again, we already know he’s helping Nebraska’s recruiting rankings. Despite having a smaller class, the Cornhuskers just passed Iowa for seventh in the conference. They are closing in on Minnesota as well, who also have quite a few more commits.

It’s a safe bet that Casey Rogers isn’t going to be the only commit to the Nebraska football team coming out of this weekend.
