Husker fans are going to be hearing a lot more from Scott Frost now that he’s gotten the media’s attention with his 13-0 season at UCF. What we’ve learned from the few months that Frost has been front and center in the media is that he’s not afraid to mince words or speak his mind.

He spoke his mind yet again Wednesday night and in the process had a bit of a sick burn on Nick Saban. Frost, who is in Houston tonight for the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year award.

The Huskers’ head man was asked his opinion about Saban benching starting quarterback Jalen Hurts for true freshman Tua Tagovailoa. Frost responded, “It was a decision I don’t know I would have been courageous enough to make. That’s the answer you want to hear. The other answer is that he was pretty obviously better and they had 12 games to figure that out and didn’t.”

Yes, the Cornhuskers’ head coach issued that sick burn. Before you decide he was being disrespectful, he followed that up with “Coach Saban is above criticism with everything he’s accomplished, so I don’t mean it that way, but I recruited Tua out of high school and knew what he could do and it doesn’t surprise me that he did what he did. Jalen’s a great player, too. That was a very bold and courageous move and I’m surprised it didn’t happen earlier.”

So yes, the Nebraska football head coach has a lot of respect for Nick Saban and what he’s accomplished at Alabama. At the same time, it seems like Scott Frost has quite a bit of confidence in his talent evaluation abilities.

Here’s hoping he’s right, as we move into the stretch run of the recruiting cycle for the 2018 class. Here’s hoping he continues to have no problem speaking his mind as well.
