The Nebraska football coaches are getting paid a bonus for winning a National Title … at UCF … which hasn’t really won a National Title.

Nebraska football fans can now claim their coaches won a national title. At least they can make that claim if they want to go along with what UCF AD Danny White announced on Wednesday.

After spending the first part of the week rightfully complaining about not getting a shot at the title in the playoffs, UCF decided to do something about it.

The school announced it was claiming a National Title as part of their undefeated season. It makes some sense. In the Peach Bowl, the Knights defeated Auburn.

The Tigers came into the game with a 10-3 record. Among those 10 wins were victories over Georgia and Alabama.

Considering those two teams are squaring off next week for the National Title, UCF has decided they are better than both. White has gone on record saying UCF is going to put up a banner and hold a parade.

When he was asked whether he was serious about claiming the national title, he made sure everyone knew he was. When asked whether or not that meant he was going to pay out any bonuses that would have been earned if they had won the title outright, he responded “of course.”

That means Husker coaches, every single one of the assistants currently in Lincoln, will get a piece of the pie. It’s been a good week for that group.

Unfortunately, head coach Scott Frost doesn’t get a piece of the pie because he already hit his bonus cap. Think about that for a minute.

The staff at UCF did such a great job during their 13-0 season that they’re all getting bonuses for winning a National Title and their head coach hit every bonus he could.

That group is coming to rebuild a Nebraska football program sorely needing an infusion of excitement and positivity. 2018 is already looking up.
