Newest Nebraska football running back will need to beat out some competition

Greg Bell might be the biggest impact player of the trio of JUCO players the Nebraska football team landed. He’s also part of the deepest aspect of the Huskers roster.

Bell will be joining a quartet of backs who have all seen action for the Huskers in recent years. Tre Bryant is expected to be back and 100 percent healthy in 2018. Then there’s Devine Ozigbo and Mikale Wilbon.

There is also Jaylin Bradley, who got at least a cup of coffee as a true freshman this past season. At the moment, all four are expected to return.

So where does Bell and his 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing fit into the plan? It’s not entirely clear.

At the very least, the Huskers are going to add a player who could win the starting job. If he doesn’t do so, then they have some serious weapons as depth.

It’s pretty clear that Scott Frost and company have seen something that makes them think they need this JUCO back. Whether it’s just because he’s super talented, or because they’ve noted a weakness in what they have, he’s here because of a full court press the coaching staff has put on.

Whatever the outcome, the Nebraska football team went big after Greg Bell to fill a hole of one kind or another.
