Nebraska football got itself a starting linebacker in Will Honas

It’s no secret that the Nebraska football team’s defense left a lot to be desired in 2017. Will Honas is going to be filling quite a need.

He’ll in fact be filling a couple of different needs. The Huskers do badly need some more talent at linebacker.

The Cornhuskers also need a player that is perceived as tough and a heck of a tackler. Honas fits both of those bills to a tee.

More from Nebraska Football

Not only did the linebacker lead Butler Community College in tackles, but he led by a wide margin. Honas recorded a total of 96 tackles, which was about 15 more than the next closest tackler.

Among those 96 tackles, 10 were for a loss. He also had three sacks and a couple of interceptions. There’s a reason why the newest Huskers linebacker has been compared to Lavonte David.

David was another JUCO linebacker who was easily the best defender on his Husker teams. He’s also made himself quite the career in the NFL.

Honas might not have the same level of raw talent but he’s a heady player that his coaches love. He’s also got a nose for the ball the new Nebraska football coaches desperately need.
