The Nebraska basketball team couldn’t build on a huge halftime lead over Delaware State.

The Nebraska basketball team looked it was finally taking a decisive step forward in its development. The Huskers took a 16 point lead at the half over Delaware state.

In the second half, the team showed what it has showed a bit too often this year. It showed an inability to close out a lesser team.

In the second half, the Huskers seemed to have taken their foot off the gas pedal. At one point they went four minutes without scoring.

That allowed the Hornets to close the gap to 11 points. This is a Hornets team that is now 2-12.

This is a Hornets team that had no business being within 30 points at the final whistle. If the Cornhuskers want to take the next step, they going to need to put in 40 full minutes.

That means 40 full minutes against the good teams and the bad. As the Big Ten season has unfolded, we’ve seen that the conference might not be as good as it looked at the beginning of the year.

The top half of the conference could be there for the Huskers’ taking. In order to do that, Nebraska is going to need to find a way to play better than they did Friday night.

The Huskers have one more warmup game. They’ll take on a bad Stetson team next Friday.

After Stetson, it’s time to see just how far they can go in conference. So far, that upset win over Minnesota has them well positioned.

Guys like Glyn Watson need to step up and have better nights than he’s been having. He gets a pass Friday night because he was banged up.

Someone else needs to be the scorer on those bad nights. If the team can’t find some better consistency, then this is going to be the season that might have been for the Nebraska basketball team.
