The Nebraska football team made a big push for Joshua Fleeks but in the end, he signed with the Baylor Bears on Wednesday morning.

While the Nebraska football team put on a late charge it lost out on a recruit early Wednesday morning. Joshua Fleeks, a four-star wide receiver out of Texas announced on Twitter that he signed with the Baylor Bears.

The tea leaves seemed to be pointing to Fleeks sticking with the team he had committed to for the last few days. Last week, the entire Baylor Bears coaching staff had been making the rounds, visiting its top recruits.

Fleeks was one of those visits. It’s not clear exactly how close the Huskers got to stealing one away from the Big 12 school.

Nebraska didn’t offer Fleeks until Scott Frost and company had been brought to Lincoln.

It doesn’t appear he was really even on the radar of the school when Mike Riley and company were here.

The signing was the first of many all across the country on this the first day of the initial early signing period. This is the first time football recruits have been able to sign in December under NCAA rules.

Before now, we’d be waiting another couple of months before we had any idea who was going to officially become a Husker. The February signing day is still alive and well also.

That means that anyone worried the Huskers haven’t completely filled their 2018 recruiting class today, and by the end of this week can turn their lonely eyes to the period of time right around Valentine’s Day.

Stay tuned, as it’s still early in the day for many of the recruits the Cornhuskers have their eyes on. The next big target Nebraska football fans should keep an eye on is running back Greg Bell, who will be announcing around 11:45 Lincoln time who he is signing with.
