The Nebraska football team did better than settling for Sonny Dykes

Speaking of Chad Morris going to Arkansas, it turns out SMU players were not remotely happy with his replacement. That alone is quite a bit different than what we saw with the Nebraska football team,

While there were Husker players that were sad to see the coaching staff get the boot, they were plenty happy to have a prodigal son returning home. Mustang players were hoping one of the coaches on Morris’ staff would get promoted.

You can’t really blame them for wanting an assistant from a team that had led them to success. The players had been looking for interim head coach Jeff Traylor to get the gig.

When Sonny Dykes was named, there was a bit of surprise from all over the web. He hadn’t actually been an on-field coach in 2016.

Dykes had served as a special assistant at TCU and worked at Cal before that. The players’ reaction to his hiring is even more interesting considering he will indeed be coaching them during their bowl game.

The Nebraska football team has no bowl game to go to, eliminating that bit of weirdness. Scott Frost will be coaching the UCF Knights, but it appears that’s a situation all sides are fine with.
