Nebraska football allowed Mike Riley to come off the field before they fired him.

Moos didn’t wait all that long to inform Mike Riley he was no longer the head coach of the Nebraska football team. He did, however allow him to come off the field after the Iowa game before he gave him the news.

You can’t say the same for Arkansas. The Razorbacks’ athletics department made news for all the wrong reasons when they fired head coach Bret Bielema as he was walking off the field after the season’s final game.

There was plenty of backlash to a move that was seen as clueless and heartless. Not only was the move poorly timed, but it clearly did not need to be done that fast.

It’s not as if Arkansas had his replacement waiting in the wings. The next guy was not ready to move in 10 minutes after Bielema got the call.

Bielema was fired on November 24, the day after Thanksgiving. His replacement, Chad Morris wasn’t named until December 6.

For the most part, the SEC doormat moved slower than the other schools in the head coaching hunt. The Nebraska football team lost it’s head coach on November 25. Scott Frost was hired a week later.
