Nebraska football did quite a bit better than Tennessee

Yes, you had to know the first team that would get compared to the Nebraska football team was the Tennessee Volunteers. Not only didn’t the school get its first choice, it didn’t get it’s third, or its fourth or its fifth, or its 10th.

Even worse than the fact that everyone knew who the Volunteers were looking at, was that when fans found out Greg Schiano was the choice, they revolted. They didn’t just voice their displeasure.

The Volunteers fans, led by sports shock jock Clay Travis threw such a fit, that Tennesee officials had to rescind their offer to the Ohio State defensive coordinator. In fact, they basically had to leave a contract unsigned.

The two sides were that close, before the school bent to the whim of the fan.

After word got out that the Vols had done Schiano dirty, it appeared for a while that no coach worth his salt was going to take the job. It was an almost every day occurrence that we saw one coach after another get offered the job, only to turn it down.

If there was one coach that never got a mention for the Volunteers’ job, it was Scott Frost. That was because most people knew he was headed to coach the Nebraska football team.
