The Nebraska basketball team is looking to beat an old foe it hasn’t beat in quite some time.

While the annual tilt between Nebraska basketball and Creighton is billed as a rivalry, it really isn’t. At least it’s not much of a rivalry as of late. The Creighton Bluejays have won 15 of the last 18 matchups and six in a row.

That means the Huskers haven’t beaten the ‘Jays since Tim Miles took over. Even worse than the annual loss is that it’s usually not much of a game.

Fresh off an upset victory over Minnesota, the Cornhuskers are hoping there’s a first time for everything under Miles. In order to pull off the second straight upset, the team is going to have to play much better on the road than it has so far.

While the Huskers are 5-0 at Pinnacle Bank this season, they are just 2-3 on away from Lincoln. Both of those wins were against teams that qualify as “cupcakes” for the Cornhuskers.

On the flipside, Nebraska’s three losses away from home have been rather embarrassing. Two were blowout losses where the team didn’t seem to show up. The third, against UCF was a game it should have been able to win.

The Huskers now take on a Creighton team that has two wins against Top 25 teams and is one of the top scoring teams in the country. The Jays are averaging 92.5 points a game, fifth in the NCAAs. The Huskers offense has been pretty good, averaging 72 points per contest but it will be the defense that is the issue on Saturday.

If the Nebraska basketball team can find the same kind of defense it used against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, it stands a chance. If the Huskers play the way they have in their road games this season, it’s going to be yet another blowout loss. With tipoff at 1:30, we won’t have long to wait and see which team we get.
