Nebraska football fans might see the prodigal son in Scott Frost return soon.

Rumors over the weekend were claiming the Scott Frost derby was a full fledged fight between the Nebraska football team and the Florida Gators. If Frost is indeed moving on from UCF, it appears the derby is down to one team.

On Sunday afternoon, reports began surfacing that the Golden Knights head coach, who has the team 11-0 in just his second season decided not to meet with Florida officials this weekend. Other reports indicate Frost got several calls from his former coach in Tom Osborne.

The message from Osborne as a simple one, “it’s time to come home.” If these reports are true, it’s  a stroke of genius move from new athletic director Bill Moos. Moos has no ties to Frost or the Nebraska program that was the best in college football when Scott was the quarterback.

Osborne of course, has plenty of ties with Nebraska, having been the head coach during the Huskers’ glory days. He also served a term as the school’s athletic director. It appears the former AD and the current athletic director teamed up in order to help the Cornhuskers bring home the coach they really want.

The question now, of course, is whether or not the Huskers can close the deal. It’s possible the coach will stay at Central Florida. With the Gators out of the running, it appears that if he does decide he’s looking for a better and bigger program, he is the Nebraska football team’s to lose.
