Nebraska football fans might have reason to worry.

Nebraska football fans who thought Scott Frost to the Huskers was a no-brainer might need to start getting worried. Reports surfaced on Friday afternoon that Chip Kelly has officially turned down the Florida Gators.

Almost immediately after those reports surfaced, new reports hit the web that stated Florida is moving quickly on Plan B. Plan B in Gainesville appears to be Scott Frost.

The Lincoln Journal Star is one of dozens of news organizations reporting that Florida AD Scott Strickland and Frost will be meeting this weekend to discuss the Gators’ head coaching job. Anyone who is starting to sweat, is probably doing so with good reason.

The forgone conclusion that was Frost to Nebraska was always contingent on Kelly heading to the SEC. There’s very little doubt that the Huskers having real competition, from the same state where Scott is currently coaching is not good news.

At the very least, this new development likely means NU is going to have to get into a bidding war. The good news there is they likely have the money to pay anyone they want, anything they want.

The bad news is the decision by the current UCF head coach may not be all about money. When Frost looks at the state of the two programs, it seems like it might be hard to argue Nebraska is a place he’s going to have an easier time winning.

Until now most fans haven’t been willing to even entertain the notion they wouldn’t be getting their number one target. What happens to the future of Nebraska football is fans are forced to accept someone other than Scott Frost.
