Nebraska football rumored to be ‘close’ to finalizing Scott Frost contract
Nebraska football could be close to naming Scott Frost their new head coach.
For those who were slightly worried that no movement between Chip Kelly and the Florida Gators meant Kelly might be getting the Nebraska football job, it appears you can rest easy. That is if you believe the latest big-time rumor flying around the Twitterverse.
According to Lars Anderson, someone who is not generally a rumor monger, Scott Frost could be on the way back to Lincoln. Anderson tweeted out on Friday evening that he heard the current UCF coach and the Huskers are close to a contract.
According to Anderson, it will be a rather big deal for the Cornhuskers. In fact, the contract is set to be the biggest the school has ever given out to a head coach. Anderson claims he’s hearing the deal will be a seven-year contract and will have a base pay of $35 million.

For those who aren’t the best at math, that comes out to $5 million per year. That’s quite a jump in pay from the contract of Frost’s apparent predecessor, Mike Riley. Speaking of Riley, he’s still employed by the University of Nebraska.
It’s entirely possible that’s one of the reasons you shouldn’t take this rumor all that seriously. On the flip side, Bill Moos has recently made comments that make it seem as though he’s done evaluating Riley and company and knows what he wants to do.
Most Husker fans believe what Moos should, and hope he wants to do, is to make a change in the head coaching position. For their part, it appears some of the assistant coaches have been telling recruits regime change is on the horizon.
The assistants had been telling players as recently as last week there was a chance they would be back. Is it possible Riley and company are aware of the machinations that are going on behind the scenes? If Anderson is right, we’re going to be finding out soon.
