Moos’ comments on Nebraska football coach are exactly what you’d expect

According to the AD, he hasn’t made a decision on the future of Nebraska football.

New reports began circulating Tuesday morning with comments by NU’s Athletic Director Bill Moos saying he hadn’t decided whether or not he was going to make a change at the top of the Nebraska football program. While this is absolutely the right thing to say at the moment, it’s probably not remotely true.

Bill Moos was brought because the man knows how to run an athletic department. He’s done it at Oregon and he’s done it at Washington State. He basically resurrected the Cougars football program.

This isn’t a man who doesn’t understand the expectations at Nebraska. He also isn’t a man who doesn’t understand that the 2017 season is not acceptable to most Husker fans. More importantly, Bill Moos isn’t a rookie at this and he isn’t going to tip his hand until it’s time to lay the cards down.

Making an appearance on The Bottom Line, Moos took the question as to what he was going to do and redirected it to where it should have gone. “I’m supporting Mike and his coaches to keep our focus where it needs to be,” he said, “and that is to finish strong and hopefully get into a bowl game.”

If there are any Husker fans that are taking his comments at face value and beginning to panic because there’s a chance Mike Riley is going to be brought back, don’t. Moos has said before that he doesn’t believe in firing coaches in the middle of the season.

If he’s not going to fire Riley, he’s also not going to talk about firing him. In fact, the comments that Moos hasn’t made up his mind yet probably bodes bad times for the Huskers’ head coach in the coming weeks.

At the very least, it appears Riley’s job is indeed in jeopardy. No one is going to be able to say for sure if the AD really hasn’t made up his mind, what would save the head coach’s job. It’s a safe bet the Nebraska football team will need to at least make that bowl game. Just making it probably doesn’t get it done either.
