If Scott Frost isn’t your type, it appears there is another former Nebraska football coach you might want to take a look at.

Frost has been the object of almost singular focus since the Nebraska football team lost to Northern Illinois. The loss to the Huskies seems to have been the last straw for many.

The quick start at Central Florida for Scott Frost has gotten fans wanting a Husker reunion of sorts. Over at The Athletic, Stewart Mandel has floated a new name should Frost decide he wants to stay at UCF, or go to a school like Florida.

That new name is actually a rather old one for some Husker fans. Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl could be a candidate according to Mandel. Bohl is certainly an interesting name, though he’s likely not going to get a younger generation of Cornhusker fans as excited as Frost. Maybe he should.

Some Husker fans might remember Bohl as the last defensive coordinator the school had before they were introduced to Bo Pelini. It was Bohl’s defenses’ collapse that started the slide towards Frank Solich‘s eventual firing.

Bohl was fired a year before Solich, and since then he’s put together a pretty successful head coaching career of his own. In 2003, he was named the head coach of the FCS level North Dakota State Bison. His 11-year run there was one of stunning success. Posting a 104-32 record with NDSU, he finished his career there with three straight FCS National Titles.

In 2014, Bohl was hired to turn around the Wyoming Cowboys, one of the most moribund programs in college football. After going 6-18 in his first two seasons, he appears to have the Cowboys headed in the right direction.

Last season, the school posted an 8-6 record and made a bowl game. This year they are off to a 5-3 start. Over the course of his head coaching career, Bohl has posted a 123-59 record. He’s also learned and improved over the course of his career.

Scott Frost, on the other hand, has been a head coach for two years total. He’s had quite a bit of success early on but he hasn’t had to win with his own players. He hasn’t been a head coach long enough to even really have his “own” players.

If new Nebraska football AD Bill Moos is a bit reluctant about hiring a head coach with so little experience, Craig Bohl could be decent alternative. The only real question is whether or not the Cornhusker faithful would accept a former defensive coordinator who was run out on a rail.
