The Nebraska football team will be breaking a rather long streak of night games next week when it takes on Northwestern.

The start time for the game against the Wildcats has been officially announced. The Nebraska football team will be kicking off in Lincoln at 2:30 pm in what could be a battle for second place in the division.

There was a time when second place seemed to be a bit more important than it is now. Barring a couple of miracles, the second place team in the Big Ten West has almost no chance of catching the Wisconsin Badgers.

When talking about bragging rights, it would certainly help head coach Mike Riley argue for his job if the Cornhuskers were able to finish just behind the Badgers in the final standings. Should they manage to do that, it would likely mean his team managed to either win out, or at the very least win all the rest of their games against the Western division.

The game time announcement means there are just two games on the schedule with times that are still to be determined. Neither the matchups with Minnesota or Penn State have a time yet. The Huskers will close out the regular season against the Iowa Hawkeyes at 3:00 pm on Black Friday.

That game will be the last Black Friday showdown between the two teams, at least for the foreseeable future. It’s still unclear whether the Huskers are going to be moving away from Black Friday games altogether.

On Monday, the Nebraska football team found out they will officially be playing the Northwestern game, as well as the rest of their slate without Tre Bryant. Riley announced the running back is undergoing corrective surgery and could petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt. The Huskers kick off this Saturday’s game against Purdue at 6:30 pm on FS1.
