Nebraska football: Mike Riley ‘destined’ to be fired according to national analyst
The Nebraska football team is still being led by Mike Riley but many people don’t think it’s going to last.
You might have noticed that there have been rumors flying around the Nebraska football team. It turns out that Mike Riley isn’t particularly popular these days.
One national analyst after another has proclaimed they know who the Huskers might hire. Almost no one believes Riley is going to be the head coach in 2018.
Count Yahoo’s Pat Forde among those who believe the Cornhuskers making a change is “destiny.” In his latest column, Forde laid out who he believes will replace Riley as the head man for Nebraska.
Yes, Scott Frost is among those Forde believes could be a candidate. At the same time, the analyst thinks the Central Florida coach is going to have options and will vet the Huskers’ job carefully.
The Yahoo columnist surfaces a few other names he believes could be headed to Lincoln and none of those names are likely to get Cornhusker fans too excited. Kevin Sumlin headlines the list, according to Land of 10.
Bret Bielema, the embattled Arkansas head man and Greg Schiano are also on there. Schiano has had an interesting career. He is credited with turning the Rutgers program around, but his resume after that is a laundry list of failure.
These days, Schiano is serving as the defensive coordinator at Ohio State. While the Buckeyes’ defense has been good, it’s hard to tell whether that’s scheme or flat-out talent.
One name that Nebraska fans have likely not heard much before is Joe Moorhead. Moorhead is the offensive coordinator for Penn State. Clearly, the Nittany Lions are among the best offenses in the country. Like Schiano, it’s hard to tell whether that’s thanks to Moorhead, or Saquon Barkley.

While Forde thinks it’s a done deal, the reality is that Mike Riley is still the head coach for the Nebraska football team. The situation likely won’t be changing until the end of the year at least.
