Tre Bryant has been out since game two of Nebraska football’s season and now it appears a decision on whether he’ll miss the rest of the year is on the way.
After Wednesday’s practice, Cornhuskers head coach Mike Riley said a resolution to the mystery of Tre Bryant might be coming soon. In fact, the coach said the decision to get his running back a medical redshirt might come as soon as Monday.
During his address to the media, Riley made it clear that one of the reasons the decision had not been made yet, is because it was up to the player. Bryant is the one who is going to decide whether he tries to come back and play for the Nebraska football team in 2017.

Should he decide his season is over, he would almost assuredly be able to keep his sophomore status for 2018. That would be a massive boon for a Nebraska team that is going to be a bit short on the depth chart at Bryant’s position.
The idea of Bryant taking a medical redshirt is a relatively new one. There was some hope the running back would be able to return sooner than this.
There was a time when the Cornhuskers believed Bryant was simply day-to-day. After missing five straight games, it’s obvious the injury is worse than they thought. In his place Mikale Wilbon and Devine Ozigbo have been adequate if not spectacular.
Sitting at 3-4 on the year, this has been a bit of a lost season. The downturn for the Huskers is one reason there is a discussion at all. It’s a safe bet if the Cornhuskers were really in the race for the Big Ten West, the coaching staff would be holding off on this talk.
