Tyronn Lue

  • Played at Nebraska (’95-’98)
  • First Round Draft Pick by the Denver Nuggets (1998)
  • 11 years in the NBA as a player (’98-’09)
  • Assistant Coach in the NBA (’09-’16)
  • Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (’16-present)

Lue has an intricate connection to Nebraska basketball having played for three years and leaving to first-round draft pick.

The Nebrasketball program decided to retire Lue’s number this past season.

His coaching career hasn’t been extensive, but it has been impressive.

He began his tenure in the NBA at Boston in 2009 where he was the director of basketball development.

In 2013, he joined the Los Angeles Clippers staff before moving to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 as the associate head coach.

During the 2016 season, David Blatt was fired as the head coach of the Cavs and Lue took over.

Later that year, the Cavaliers would win their first NBA title in grand fashion over the favored Golden State Warriors.

NBA Coaching Record: 78-42 (.650)

Fit for Nebraska: 🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽

This is what you would call a Slam Dunk Grand Slam hire.

Fit for Coach: 🌽🌽

Only thing Nebraska has going for it would be Lue’s career here, it would take a mess in Cleveland for him to be let go and be available. If he were to become available, and he were interested in coaching in the NCAA, Nebraska is the fit.
