Jeff Capel

  • NCAA Assistant Coach (’00-’02)
  • VCU Head Coach (’02-’06)
  • Oklahoma Head Coach (’06-’11)
  • Duke Associate Head Coach (’11-present)

Capel was named head coach at VCU after only two years in the assistant coaching ranks making him the youngest head coach in Division I at the time (27).

In his four years with the Rams, he guided them to 79 wins and their first NCAA tournament appearance in eight years.

In 2006, Capel would leave VCU to replace the vacancy left at Oklahoma by Kelvin Sampson.

During his first three years at Oklahoma, Capel led the Sooners to 69 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances and one Elite Eight.

The following two years would be Capel’s downfall, however, as back-to-back losing seasons and off-court controversy led to his resignation in 2010.

In May of 2011, he accepted an offer to join the Duke coaching staff as an assistant coach and has since been named associate head coach.

NCAA Head Coaching Record: 162-110 (.596)

Three NCAA Tournament Appearances

One Elite Eight

Fit for Nebraska: 🌽🌽🌽

Great coach, but controversy has been present during his tenure. Nebraska fans aren’t crazy about questionable morals, but I think they’d see past it.

Fit for Coach: 🌽🌽

Coach in waiting for Duke, not sure he would leave for anyone, even if it were a school that would pay more for him than their football coach.
