Tom Crean

  • NCAA Assistant Coach (’87-’99)
  • Marquette Head Coach (’99-’08)
  • Indiana Head Coach (’08-’17)

After 12 years in the assistant coach ranks, including stints with Pittsburgh and Michigan State, Crean landed his first head coaching gig at Marquette in 1999.

In nine years at the helm, Crean led the Golden Eagles to an impressive eight postseason appearances, five NCAA tournaments and a Final Four in 2003.

He also brought the Marquette program from Conference USA to the Big East in that time before accepting the head position at Indiana.

Crean took over a mess at Indiana, registering losing seasons in his first three years with the program before breaking through in 2011.

From that point on, the Hoosiers made the postseason five out of six timesΒ and went to three Sweet Sixteens.

After a disappointing 16-loss season, Indiana parted ways with Crean this past March.

NCAA Head Coaching Record: 356-231 (.606)

Nine NCAA Tournament Appearances

Three Sweet Sixteens

One Final Four

Fit for Nebraska: 🌽🌽🌽🌽

Crean + rabid media and fan base = the only potential problem with this relationship.

Fit for Coach: 🌽🌽🌽🌽

How far does an ex-Indiana coach fall? Nebraska would offer some Big Ten redemption for Crean, especially with no other logical job openings available.
