The Nebraska football staff is hot on the trail of new running backs for their recruiting big board. They found one in the Sunshine State to offer.
In Winter Haven, Fla., Ja’Veon Marlow lines up in the backfield before taking the handoff and slipping through a hole opened by his offensive linemen.
It’s just wide enough for the 5-11, 200-pound prospect to slip through and after hitting a cut, he sprints past the last line of defense, his locks waving in the breeze as he runs for another touchdown.
Not many people may know his name just yet. He has a handful of smaller offers with his most notable being Vanderbilt, but the Commodores are no longer the most impressive name on that list.
Nebraska has thrown their hat in the ring for a back with good balance, excellent hands (his school runs a bit of the ol’ fashioned option that Husker fans know and love) and he’s no stranger to end around runs.
A back like Marlow would find a place in the Riley offense as a complement to an athlete such as JD Spielman.
Being able to threaten a defense with a wide receiver adept at hitting the outside along with a back who can provide the opportunity to take a quick catch upfield sounds like something that would fit RIley’s offense very well.
Marlow’s running style is unquestioned. There’s no hesitation to his movement. He clearly has trust in his blockers and almost slides along some as he inches for yardage, and in some cases daylight.
Next: Where to Go Following TJ Pledger Commit
With TJ Pledger committing to Oklahoma, the Nebraska football staff may opt to take two running backs this cycle to give them a couple of options come next season.
The Winter Haven High School senior-to-be looks to be a solid prospect for just such a pickup.
