Nebraska Football Spring 2017: 5 Depth Chart “Bracket Busters”
Ben Stille, Outside Linebacker
It’s not often a legit FBS player comes from a town of about 2,500 people, but Stille is definitely that caliber of athlete. His high school film also suggests he could be a perfect fit for defensive coordinator Bob Diaco’s 3-4 defense.
The level of competition Stille saw in high school was admittedly weak, but a quick look at the film shows he’s in a class of his own.
He’s much bigger, stronger and faster than just about everyone else on the field.
The film also shows that the defensive end prospect commonly lined up in a stand-up rush end position and even dropped back into coverage at times in high school (with considerable success).
Both of those skills will be highly valuable at one of the most demanding positions in the 3-4.
The 6-5, 245-pounder has a great chance to make a move this spring as well.
Current No. 1 short side outside linebacker Alex Davis is an impressive athlete, but he is fairly new to football. Keep in mind that 2016 scout team MVP Collin Miller has sat out of spring drills so far.
If Stille can take advantage of the head start, he might see the field on defense a lot sooner than many probably expected.
