DiCaprio Bootle, Cornerback

One of the talking points of spring practice No. 6 was how good Nebraska’s secondary looked.

Cornerback Joshua Kalu’s work at safety might say something about how good sophomore Lamar Jackson is performing. If Jackson is good enough to move Kalu out of a top cornerback spot, opposing quarterbacks are in for it.

Another cornerback that stood out was Bootle who seems to be playing well this spring. Though it’s presumed Kalu, Jackson, Chris Jones and Eric Lee Jr are the top four corners, don’t count Bootle out just yet.

The Miami, Fla. native has great speed that could take over if he can get the position down.

Standout cornerback Elijah Blades will come in the fall as well. That’ll make three high-profile recruits (Blades, Jackson and Lee) with whom Bootle will have to battle for playing time.

If he keeps making plays this spring, don’t be surprised if the lightly-recruited athlete earns a spot ahead of one or two of them on the depth chart.
