The Nebraska football team is going to be without two big weapons in a couple of weeks when it goes up against the Indiana Hoosiers.

On Tuesday morning, Mike Riley addressed the media and said he didn’t believe either tight end Cethan Carter, or wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp would be ready to go for the team’s next game. Their doubtful status remains despite the fact that they have a week off to heal up.

The Nebraska football head coach did point to the bye week as reason for optimism in that regard. Riley said while he didn’t think either one of them would be able to play against Minnesota, he thought there was a better chance they would be back for the Purdue game.

That would also give the players one week to get back into the feel of the game before the Nebraska football team’s biggest game of the season so far, against the Wisconsin Badgers. Whether or not either player will even be ready for Purdue is still up in the air, and Riley seems especially cautious with Westerkamp.

“It was an injury to his back. Right now, everything is very sore and tight,” Riley said of Westerkamp according to Huskers Illustrated. “It’s going to be a matter of how quickly it loosens up, how much better he can feel in a certain amount of time. I think that’s going to take some time. We’re just glad it wasn’t any worse than that, and it appears he will be back relatively soon.”

As for the rest of the Nebraska football walking wounded, it appears the coaching staff expects to have Tanner Farmer, Alonzo Moore and Devine Ozigbo back for Indiana. Farmer, with a high ankle sprain seems to be the most likely to continue to miss action.

Alonzo Moore has suffered a shoulder injury but Riley says he’s progressing. Ozigbo suffered a sprained ankle and will miss practice this week. That decision was made with the hopes that a week off would allow him to practice next week as the Nebraska football team prepares for the Hoosiers.
