Big Ten Conference To Use Special Sam Foltz, Mike Sadler Coins In Every Game This Week
The Big Ten conference is going to be using special Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler coins for the opening coin toss in all seven, week five games.
The announcement on Twitter that the coins will be used is just the latest way to pay tribute to the two fallen punters. Sam Foltz was due to be a potential All-American punter for the Nebraska Cornhuskers this year.
Mike Sadler had just finished his college football career for the Michigan State Spartans. As most Michigan State and Nebraska football fans know, the two conference rivals but good friends were traveling home from a football camp this summer when they were involved in a car accident.
Foltz and Sadler were killed in the accident and both schools’ communities have been dealing with an outpouring of emotion. The Huskers, especially have been getting all kinds of love from the college football world since the tragic accident.
When the Nebraska football team opened the season against Fresno State, they went out for their first punt without a punter. While they were assessed a penalty, the Bulldogs declined that penalty as a show of solidarity.
When Oregon came to town, the Ducks football team laid a bouquet of gold and green flowers at the 27 yard line of the Huskers’ field. Sam Foltz wore number 27 while at Nebraska.
Since Big Ten play has begun, teams have still been paying their respects to Foltz. Northwestern came up with their own way to honor the fallen punter. Last weekend, Illinois came up with a very original t-shirt that honored both Foltz and Sadler.
