Big Ten Power Rankings Heading Into Week 4
8. Maryland (3-0, 0-0)
No, the Maryland Terapins are not going to finish the season undefeated. Making a bowl game might even be a stretch when the smoke clears. At the same time, the Terps have handled their business all season and so they get to be ranked just ahead of all the teams that have lost at least once.

The same Howard team that gave Big Ten foe Rutgers all it could handle, was never in the game against Maryland in a 52-13 season opener. Maryland followed that up with a blowout 41-14 win over Florida International.
The Terps had a harder fight in their third game of the year, going up against former Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost’s Central Florida team. In that game, Maryland needed double overtime in order to remain undefeated but UCF is also likely the best team the Terapins have played this year.
The theme for Maryland has been consistent all season. The school will throw when it has to, but it would rather run, then run and then run some more. Four Terapins have more than 25 carries this season, and the team has already rushed for 800 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards a game.
To put how one dimensional Maryland has been so far this year, starting quarterback Perry Hills has thrown 60 passes this season. Purdue quarterback David Blough threw 57 passes in his last game. Those two teams square off next week in both teams’ Big Ten conference openers.
