Big Ten Power Rankings Heading Into Week 4
14. Purdue (1-1, 0-0)
Poor Purdue. It’s looking like it’s going to be another long season for the Boilermakers who got off to a seemingly encouraging start.
Purdue won their season opener against Western Kentucky but even there, the team had to sweat out a game against an FCS opponent where the lead had shrunk to 28-18 at the half. In their second game of the season, the bottom dropped out.
While quarterback David Blough threw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns, he also threw a whopping five interceptions. Purdue gets some points for battling back and not making this game a blowout, but the Boilermakers are in the basement of the Big Ten power rankings because they trailed a non-power five opponent 31-7 at home.
Sitting at just 1-1, Purdue is one of the rare Big Ten teams that doesn’t start conference play yet. They get one more game to try and pad their record, as they’ll host the Nevada Wolfpack. Perhaps a win and some losses could move Purdue up the power rankings next week
