Why am I starting to do a Big Ten Power Rankings during the fourth week of the season?

Because as the conference heads into head to head play, we have a much better look at who are the best teams and who are the worst in the Big Ten. In the college football world, the view of a team can change pretty quickly from one week to the next.

There were plenty of Nebraska football fans who were worried about the defense after Wyoming moved the ball fairly well for three-quarters. There were people who tought the Oregon Ducks were going to walk all over the Huskers.

Oregon certainly moved the ball, but Nebraska was able to pull out the win. Then there’s a team like Michigan State, who struggled to beat Furman in their first game. In their second, they manhandled Notre Dame. On the flipside, people thought Iowa was looking as strong as last year.

Then the Hawkeyes couldn’t handle FCS North Dakota State. There’s still plenty of room for discussion but I feel like the power rankings make more sense once we’ve seen a few games to base those rankings off of, rather than just guessing on who’s the best when the season kicks off.

Let us know in the comments whether you think a team should be higher or lower. Maybe we got a team so wrong, you can barely contain your incredulity. Let us know that too. It’s the first week of the Big Ten conference season. There are bound to be some shakeups this weekend.
