What Happens With Keith Williams?

Technically, the DUI incident with Keith Williams happened after the Nebraska football team had finished its practices for the week. Still, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention what is one of the biggest stories involving an assistant coach for the Huskers in quite a while.

Arrested for his third DUI early Sunday morning, Williams is still in jail at this point and will remain there until his court date at 2:00 PM on Monday. Earlier today, Mike Riley addressed the situation for the first time and predictably didn’t really show his hand on what he’s planning to do about the situation.

Riley did say he knew about Williams’ prior arrests because the wide receiver coach had been forthcoming about his past. That’s good. The Nebraska football head coach also made it clear this was a serious situation.

Most interestingly, it appears Riley has at least the beginnings of a plan about what he wants to do, reading between the lines in this quote:

“There are things about representing and bottom-line, this is dangerous, dangerous stuff. People get killed, kill others, kill themselves. That’s all bad. Like we do with everything, we will have an assessment, evaluation of it, and then you talk about things like intervention and education, and there will be consequences that I’m not ready to talk about right now.”

Whether he’s not ready to talk about them because he’s going to fire Williams and wants to talk to him first, or because he’s going to keep Williams with some serious caveats won’t be known for a while yet.
