Injuries Are Starting To Pile Up

The Nebraska football team has been fortunate enough to escape the first week of practices without any players suffering obvious ending injuries. That’s the good news.

More from Nebraska Football

This being football, dings and scrapes and injuries are starting to pile up a bit. One disconcerting pattern is that when a player goes down, it tends to be someone who is going to be looked at as a starter.

Of all the injuries that should worry the Nebraska football fans the most is the concussion suffered by Cethan Carter. The big tight end is poised to have the kind of season rarely seen in Husker lore if he can build off what he was able to do at the end of last year.

The coaches say they are being careful with Cethan and he’s going through the protocol. The problem of course, is that recovering from a concussion isn’t an exact science. Some players are able to shake them off quickly, others have them linger.

Other Huskers that the Nebraska football team needs to see make quick recoveries are starting wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp and linebacker Michael Rose-Ivey. Neither player is supposed to miss a ton of time, but both are missing quite a few practices.

The good news is, they’re also both veterans who should be able to step in when they’re healthy and get to full speed relatively quickly.
