How do YOU prepare for Husker Football season?
By Kelli Anne
It’s quickly approaching, you know what I’m talking about; Husker Football!
Only a few more weeks until most of Nebraska is packing up, getting in their cars and driving down (or up) I-80 to enjoy some friends, football and tailgating. My question for you is “how do YOU prepare for the season?”
I’m a nerd so one of the first places I go for Husker information is the summaries from BIG Ten media days. I also read the previews from some of the many great Husker writers out there who have the luxury of going to the practices, interviewing the players and coaches and seeing things firsthand. Lots of familiar faces on the X’s and O’s board this year, but also some new guys to get to know.
Lots of watch lists coming out too. Cornhusker QB Tommy Armstrong, Nathan Gerry, Brandon Reilly and Jordan Westerkamp are all players to watch. (As if we don’t already.) Cethan Carter and Dylan Utter, Drew Brown, and Terrell Newby also are getting some early recognition. Personally, I’m looking forward to watching De’Mornay Pierson-El have a healthy season and get back to being DPE. It’s been WAY too long since my favorite number 15 ran up and down the field.
Since they call me the Tailgate Diva, I’ve also been busy in the off season trying out new recipes, testing other tailgate gadgets, and checking out other tailgaters for their tricks of the trade. I’ll be sharing them with you as the Big Red season progresses. Anytime you have a question or need a recommendation feel free to hit me up on Twitter. Just remember that the BEST ingredient for a successful tailgate is the people. And if you’ve invited Husker fans, you’re already way ahead of the game.
In the meantime, gather your reading materials, get to the grocery store, or the beverage store, and make sure you’re ready for kickoff come September 3rd when the Cornhuskers beat up on Fresno State.

Get the coolers out of the garage closet. Get the grilling tools cleaned up. Get your Husker Red on. Get to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln and remember to be courteous fans. The main thing is enjoy yourself, get home safely and don’t forget to cheer on your beloved Nebraska Football team. As always, GO BIG RED!
