The coaching transition for Nebraska women’s basketball has caused a few setbacks, but things are looking up as the team finds a new top player.

New head coach of the Huskers, Amy Williams, has been struggling for the past few months when it came to putting together rosters for the team. However, this past week Williams received news that one of the top players from Nebraska in the Class of 2017 has committed to play.

Minden’s Taylor Kissinger, a senior forward, informed Coach Williams on Monday that she wanted to join Nebraska women’s basketball for the 2017-18 season. To announce her news, this 6-foot-1 forward tweeted out her news for the public to see. Kissinger plans to sign her letter of intent come November.

This commitment is the first one Coach Williams has from the 2017 recruiting class. Kissinger has proven herself as a strong player with high scoring ability in high school, something that she could bring to the Huskers.

The loss of former coach Connie Yori and her assistants has not been an easy one for Nebraska women’s basketball. After Williams was hired this past spring, not only did the team lose their former coach staff, but also star shooting guard, Natalie Romeo, along with two of their top recruits from the Class of 2016.

More from Husker Corner

We saw Williams find two new players to make up for the loss of the two 2016 class recruits, so we know that she has the potential to create a great team. New to the team are three freshman guards, a sophomore red shirted guard, and a freshman guard/forward. Many players from last season are also returning to play again.

Williams is starting to regain the same momentum that Yori had with this first commit from the 2017 class. Yori had been watching and recruiting Kissinger since she was a sophomore, while Williams had not been watching her while she was still at South Dakota. Once Williams took over at Nebraska, she reached out to Kissinger again.

Nebraska women’s basketball is starting to come together again after an extended period of time where fans had serious doubts and worries for Williams’ ability to lead the team to success. While the team is made up of many strong, young players and the coaching staff is completely new, fans do not have reason to doubt just yet. There is a ton of talent coming to the team in 2016 and 2017, so no one can make any preconceived judgements before watching to see what these girls can do for the Huskers.
